Todd McMurtry grew up in Covington, Kentucky. His father was a trial lawyer, and his mother restored historic homes, rented apartments and organized the neighbors to improve the neighborhood. Todd and his brother had a childhood much different than those who grew up in the suburbs. Urban Covington was diverse socially, economically and ethnically. The early interactions in Covington with people from all walks of life informed Todd about the inherent goodness of people from different backgrounds, the real effect national economics have on the working class, and the joy of being a Kentuckian.

Todd carried this appreciation for diversity forward into his adult life. As an attorney, he has always been a strong advocate for the underdog, an opponent of corrupt government, and a true believer in equality under the law. To him, equality does not mean social justice; instead, it means everyone is treated fairly and gets a chance to succeed.

The markers of success for Todd are faith in Jesus Christ, a strong marriage, and a united family. Married at age 24 to Maria C. “Cari” Garriga, Todd and Cari have raised three children, each of whom has started on a good path. Todd and Cari are grandparents to two sweeties named J. Todd and Molly.

For fun, Todd plays golf, occasionally accompanies his wife to workouts and travels to visit his children. Most weekends find Todd on the golf course trying to work off the stress of his busy legal practice. In most regards, he leads a pretty routine life, except that he has the daily privilege of trying to make a positive difference in the world, one case at a time.
